“Lakes of Frozen Light”

In Ukraine’s Carpathian Mountains, frozen lakes stand still and serene. Trees bow, heavy under the silent strain of snowfall, and yet there’s a warmth you find surrounded by this wintery wonderland. It was this sense of frozen welcome which we wanted to explore through spidery veins and brilliant white quartz.

When you take that first step off the banks of a frozen lake, peering past the opaque surface and trails of brilliant white streaked cracks, you can just about make out water still moving gently underfoot, while all around the icy breath of winter cloaks your senses with its silent stillness. We paint the play of frozen movement in the pattern of veins and brilliant hues, creating a sense of welcoming minimalism.
